Direct Email Marketing Software: Spam Or Not?
Today’s consumer market is clogged with products. You’ve spent many years – and no
doubt thousands of dollars – perfecting it and preparing to put this product out on the market. This is why
direct email marketing software is so important, so let’s talk more about it. For every product
already being sold there are hundreds more waiting for their shot.
Direct to email marketing is just what it sounds like – marketing to consumers through email. Someone will
compose an advertisement for a product, usually with a link back to a website where the product is sold, and then
mass-email the advertisement out to many email addresses. This kind of email, however, is considered a “spam” email
– in other words, it’s unwanted and unsolicited mail and it’s likely the recipient doesn’t want it. However, these
emails are considered spam – unwanted, unsolicited emails that are actually illegal in some states – in fact, it’s
even possible for people to file a lawsuit in small claims court and sue for damages because of those emails.
And recipients have more options than just small claims court in a few states. Often, they will complain to
their Internet Service Provider, which will usually do an investigation. That Internet Service Provider can then
usually trace the spam message back to your website and, if you are on their server, shut the website down. Some
Internet Service Providers will even go so far as to fine you anywhere from $20 to $20,000 depending on their Terms
of Service.
However, not all direct email marketing software involves spam messages. Many times, companies both big and
small will obtain email addresses from customers who have used their services or purchased their products and email
them special offers or advertisements about new products they might like. The company will then send
those special offers or information about new products through their email address. This is not considered spam and
in fact will often result in a customer buying more from a company.
Before you decide to start using direct email marketing software, consider all the facts. Is it
worth getting your important website shut down? Most new business owners cannot afford a large fine or to have
their website shut down. And above all, be respectful in all of your business practices so you can avoid situations
like this.
